Electric Gear Warranties in Australia: What to Ask Before You Buy

If you've typed something like "e-bike warranty Australia" or "electric beach cart warranty what's covered" into Google before clicking through to a buying guide, you're asking the right question at the right time - before the money leaves your account, not after something stops working on a Saturday morning at the beach.

Most of the warranty confusion we hear from customers isn't about whether their gear is covered. It's about what "covered" actually means, and when the clock on that cover starts and stops. Here's the honest version.

What "12 months, including the battery" actually means

Every product we sell - the Carti carts, the fat tyre e-bikes, the kids' rides, the Fore-Play electric golf scooter, the e-foil - carries the same 12-month warranty, and that includes the battery. Not just the frame, not just the motor housing - the battery too, which is usually the most expensive single part to replace if something does go wrong with it.

That's worth asking about with any electric gear, from any brand: is the battery actually inside the warranty, or is it the one component quietly carved out in the fine print? We can only speak for our own policy here, but it's a fair question to put to anyone before you buy.

Two different clocks: damage on arrival vs faults down the track

This is the bit that trips people up. There are two separate timeframes, and they're not the same length:

If you assume the 12-month warranty covers everything from day one including transit damage, you can miss the 48-hour window without realising it's even a separate deadline. The fix is simple: unbox and inspect gear as soon as it arrives, photograph it before you use it, and report anything wrong straight away rather than after your first ride.

What to have on hand if you ever need to make a claim

Warranty and damage claims both move faster with the same basic paperwork:

Claims go to sales@makinmemoriesoutdoors.com with that information attached. None of it needs to be fancy - a phone photo and the order confirmation email you already have is enough.

Warranty length isn't where carts actually differ

It's worth knowing that a 12-month warranty isn't unusual in this category - the Beach Mule 500HD, a premium wagon sold in Australia, also carries a 12-month warranty. So if you're comparing beach carts on warranty length alone, you'll find most serious options land in the same place. The real differences are in what the warranty is protecting: the Beach Mule carries a higher load rating (around 227kg) than our Carti Pro (150kg), while our Carti Lux steps past both at 300kg with genuine four-wheel drive for soft sand and dune tracks. Compare the gear itself, not just the cover sheet.

The "disposable electric gear" myth

There's a myth worth retiring: that electric gear - bikes, carts, scooters - is inherently short-lived stuff you replace every couple of years, so warranty and service barely matter. It doesn't hold up. A Carti Pro is $1,999, a Carti Lux is $2,995, the Drifter fat tyre e-bike is $2,699 - these are considered purchases, not impulse buys, and they're backed accordingly: 12 months of cover including the battery, plus a 30-day change-of-mind window if it's simply not right for you (unused, original packaging, you cover return freight). That's not the policy of something designed to be thrown away after one season.

Buying once, properly, means asking these questions upfront rather than finding out the answers the hard way: What's covered, for how long, and what do I need to keep on file. Do that before you buy, and the gear itself gets to be the easy part.

If you want the full detail on what's covered and how claims work, our warranty page sets it out plainly. And if you're comparing load ratings, range and price across the whole range before you decide, the shop all page has every current model side by side.
