The Five-Minute Habit That Keeps Your Beach Cart Rolling After Saltwater

If you've just loaded gear off the beach and your Carti's frame is dripping with saltwater, the instinct is to fold it up and forget about it until next time. That's exactly the habit worth breaking - not because the cart will fail tomorrow, but because salt left to dry on metal and moving parts does its damage slowly, over months of beach trips, not in one afternoon.

Why a rinse matters more than you'd think

Saltwater doesn't do anything dramatic in the short term. The problem is what happens after it evaporates: the salt itself stays behind as a fine residue, sitting in hinge points, axles and fold joints where it keeps drawing in moisture from the air and slowly working at bare metal and fasteners. A cart that gets rinsed after every saltwater outing simply doesn't build up that residue in the first place.

What actually needs the rinse

Not every part of the cart needs the same attention. Focus on:

The motor and battery housing aren't what need direct hosing - keep the vents and seams dry. The job is rinsing the frame, wheels, axles and hardware with a light spray, not blasting the electronics.

The five-minute routine

Rinse with fresh water as soon as you're home, not days later. A garden hose on a gentle setting is enough - no need for pressure. Tip the cart on its side briefly so water can run out of the folding joints rather than sitting in them, then leave it open (not folded) somewhere dry until it's fully dry to the touch before you put it away. Folding a damp cart straight into a garage or shed is how moisture gets trapped exactly where you don't want it.

Lighter carts make this easier

This is where the Carti X earns its keep for anyone doing this often: at 12.5kg it's light enough to tip, rinse and stand back up without much effort. The Carti Pro (22.6kg) and Carti Lux (32.6kg) are built for bigger loads and tougher terrain, so the trade-off for that extra capacity is a cart that's a bit more work to manoeuvre at the hose. Worth factoring in if you're a daily or weekly beach-goer rather than an occasional one.

A five-minute habit, not a warranty workaround

Every Carti carries the same 12-month warranty, including the battery, regardless of how often you rinse it down. The rinse-and-dry habit isn't about protecting that cover - it's just the difference between a cart that still folds and rolls smoothly in two years and one that starts feeling gritty and stiff at the joints well before then.

If you're also dialling in tyre pressure for soft sand, we've covered that separately in our guide on letting air out for soft sand - this one's just about what happens after you get home.
