The Electric Beach Trolley Buyer's Guide

The Electric Beach Trolley Buyer's Guide

Hauling the esky, the kids' gear and the fishing tackle across soft sand is the worst part of a great day out. An electric trolley fixes it. Here is how to pick the right one.

Anyone who has dragged a loaded cart across soft sand knows the feeling: wheels sinking, arms burning, and you have not even reached the water yet. An electric beach trolley - you will also see them called electric beach wagons or motorised beach carts, same machine - takes that whole job off your shoulders. A powered motor drives the wheels while you stroll behind, hands free. We were proud to be first to bring the electric trolley to Australia, so here is what to look for.

The five things that matter

  1. Payload. How much can it carry? Look for a real figure. The Carti X and Carti Pro are each rated to 150kg, and the four-wheel-drive Carti Lux carries up to 300kg, which swallows the esky, the chairs, the tackle and the kids' gear in one trip.
  2. Sand-ready wheels. Wide, all-terrain wheels are what stop a trolley bogging in soft sand. Small, hard wheels are the number one reason cheap carts fail at the beach.
  3. Range and motor. Enough range to get from the car park to your spot and back, with power to spare. The Carti range runs from a light 100W assist on the X up to a 3000W four-wheel-drive motor on the Lux, with up to 20km of hauling per charge on the Pro.
  4. Sealing. Sand and salt water are brutal on electronics. Look for a sealed, weather-protected build, and rinse and dry any powered cart after a salty day out.
  5. Fold and transport. It has to fit in your boot. A trolley that folds flat or compact is far easier to live with.

It is not just for the beach

The same hands-free hauling that works on sand works just as well for:

  • Fishing. Rods, tackle, bait and the catch, across the sand to the water and back.
  • Camping. Car to campsite in one loaded trip rather than five.
  • Sport and events. Sideline gear, chairs and eskies across grass and gravel.
  • Golf. If it is clubs you are carrying, take a look at our dedicated electric golf caddy instead.
The whole idea is simple: make the walk to and from the car the bit you do not even think about.

Matching a Carti to your day

Model Best for Headline spec
Carti X Compact trips, folds small 150kg rated, folds flat
Carti Pro The all-rounder workhorse 700W drive, 150kg, up to 20km
Carti Lux The 4WD flagship 3000W, 300kg, climbs 50% slopes

If you want the do-everything option, the Carti Pro is the one most people land on. If boot space is tight, the folding Carti X is the clever pick, and the Carti Lux is for those who want the smoothest, most premium hauler in the range.

The Carti Pro hauls up to 150kg across sand, grass and gravel, hands free.

FAQs

What should I look for in an electric beach trolley?

The five things that matter most are payload (how much it carries), sand-ready all-terrain wheels, enough range and motor power for the walk back and forth, weather sealing against sand and salt, and a fold size that fits your boot.

How much can an electric beach trolley carry?

It varies by model. The Carti X and Carti Pro are each rated to 150kg, and the four-wheel-drive Carti Lux carries up to 300kg, which is enough for the esky, chairs, tackle and the kids' gear in a single trip.

Will an electric trolley get stuck in soft sand?

A good one will not. Wide, all-terrain wheels and a powered hub motor let it drive across soft sand rather than bogging. Small hard wheels are the main reason cheap carts sink, so wheel type is the thing to check.

Are your electric trolleys sealed against sand and water?

They are built for beach life, with weather-protected electronics designed to handle sand and splashes. As with any electronics, we still recommend a rinse and dry after a salty day out.
